Do you want to grow your company? Do you want to have better dealings with co-brokes when you have a buyer, when you have a seller? Do you want to have the inside track on transactions more often when you’re presenting an offer or you’re receiving offers? Well, one of the ways that you can do that is get involved in your Realtor Association, and in that description, I didn’t even mention all of the benefits of being involved like all the amazing things that the Realtor Association does for us Realtors, I simply talked about what it will do for you and your business because I know that’s what’s going to get your attention.
Let me tell you a little story. I didn’t get involved in the Realtor Association till 2011. I was one of these people that every single year, since 2004 when I started I got my bill and I said, “What is this bill for? What am I paying?” Because I didn’t understand, and then in 2011, I started getting involved. I got involved with various committees and things like that in my state, in my local board, and then went further up to be involved in my national board.
When I started getting involved, I started saying to myself, “Wow, this is all we pay. All we pay is a lousy 500 or whatever it is, $550 a year.” I’ll tell you something, if you’re not involved in your Realtor Association, you’re making a mistake. I made it a point to come here today, to the State House, Massachusetts State House, see the pretty roof up there, for Realtor today, every year we have this 400, 500 realtors come here and we talk about our issues. Last year I was the speaker because I was chairman of the Government Affairs Committee.
Today, my friend Amy is the chairman and she’ll be the one presenting that, but there’s a whole number of topics that will be going over and making sure that our Massachusetts lawmakers are aware of. Just like we did down in DC a few weeks back for the mid year meeting. I just wanted to point that out to you guys. If you’re not involved in your Realtor Association, you’re making a mistake. If you’re one of these people who thinks that you’re overpaying or you don’t understand what your dues are for, my advice to you is before you go kicking into the curb or trash talking or being down about it like I was, get involved.
When you get involved you’ll realize we’re paying peanuts, because if you get involved, you’ll meet more people and you’ll grow your business. A couple weeks ago, three or four weeks ago we had a big walk over from another company, from a franchise over to our company, and we had a couple of other agents from another franchise join us and we opened an office, and we have a brand new office that’s 25 people strong. Guess where I made those contacts? In the Realtor Association. All right. Think about that and get involved if you’re not. Have a great day everyone.
