Anthony: Real estate is the people business, the human connection, human relationship business. Anthony Lamacchia here with questions in real estate on Fort Lauderdale Beach, my friends. Last night, I was talking to some people about this. We had a little event, actually right over there. We probably had 18 to 20 people, half of the people I had never met, but I got some friends here that invited other friends. One of the things that I was telling people that were setting things up is don’t be thinking, “Who can Anthony recruit?” “Who would be good at Anthony’s company?”
Anthony just wants to meet people, right? That’s what I’ve learned in this business over the years. Too many people in this business focus on, “Well, I don’t need to meet that person.” “I don’t need to take that phone call. What are they going to do for me?” Wrong attitude, my friends. This is the people business. I literally talk to realtors all over the country every day of my life, some of which, many of which I know I’ll never work with in my company, but so what? You make friends. You connect with people. The more people you connect with, the more business you do. Same thing when working with buyers and sellers, right? The more people you connect with.
Take social media, for example. Last night, three different realtors, one of them kills it, but three different realtors. She’s been at it a long time. Three of them told me they don’t do good on social media. “I don’t know what to say.” “I just don’t really like it.” “I don’t like putting myself out there.” I’m like, “Look, do you want to do a lot of business?” “Yes.” “Okay. Well, if you started 30 years ago, and you hustled for 30 years, you could get away without doing social media, but if you’re new in the business, or newer, you’ve got to put yourself out there because the more you put yourself out there, the more people that you’ll connect with. The more people that you connect with, watch, the more business you will do.”
I wanted to talk about that today because I think too many people are narrow-minded. Too many people look around like this. They go through life– I can’t put two hands in my face right now, but they got a hand on each side. It’s almost like a horse walking down the street. You ever see a horse and carriage and they got those blinders in their peripheral vision because they want the horse to just stay right there? Well, I mean, I could use that and say, “Well, that’s good. Be laser-focused,” but the point I’m getting at is this is the people business. If you’re one of those people who says, “I don’t like people,”
then get out of real estate. Do something else. Go make widgets in a factory. You’ll do great. You’ll work 9:00 to 5:00. Everything will be fine, you know what I mean? You don’t need to be in this business. But if you want to be in this business, it’s the human connection business. It’s the people business. So, put yourself out there. Don’t be shy. Take phone calls, return calls, be friendly with people. Another thing I see that gets on my nerve sometimes is I see agents that have been at it a long time. Sometimes it’s agents that dominate. Some of them are my friends, and I find them to be rude sometimes to newer agents that submit offers on their deals and things like that, submit offers on their listings. I’m like, “Why are you doing that?”
Be friendly. Soon enough, that person could have another offer on one of your listings that you don’t have multiple offers on, right? It’s just good to make connections and to be in touch with people and make friends. That’s the point I’m getting at. All right, my friends, I’m running a little late today. I just ran all the way down the beach, all the way down there, and now I’m back. I’m going to get up, shower, get out. I have a breakfast meeting with someone I’ve never met, but I’m looking forward to meeting this person. He sells a lot of real estate down here and asked to get together. I said, “Great, let’s do breakfast.” I don’t know or think that I’ll ever recruit this person, but so what? I want to connect with him. Then, I’m going to see some properties, and I might be taking some pictures of some cool properties that I’m going to see today. All right, my friends, have an awesome day. Have a good weekend. Enjoy yourselves.
