Anthony Lamacchia: You must be an absolute expert at the craft of the business you are in before you start playing company. That’s number one. Many people in many different businesses, I don’t care if you own a fertilizing company, if you’re a carpenter, you’re an electrician, you’re a realtor, you’re a mortgage guy, you’re entitled. You need to run through hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of jobs, hundreds of sales, hundreds of closings, whatever business you are in, and you need to become an absolute master at the craft first. That’s number one. Then you start playing company.
Jim Koch talks about this in the Samuel Adams book about his ride up building Samuel Adams. He got distracted playing company all over the place. Then before you know it, they didn’t have any new beer customers, and he said, “What the hell am I doing?” I see this with many people in many different businesses, but I see the people that truly succeed and make it far, like my good friend here, Mr. Schant Banosian, who has the, what is this, guaranteed win shirt or something, win together. He’s a true expert.
Yesterday, I had a cousin over, Bob Lamacchia. He fertilizes my lawn, and we were talking about some area that has some issues. He’s an expert. You have to become an expert before you start getting distracted and putting the cart before the horse. I hope that makes sense. Thank you all.
